HOW HAS IT ALL BEGAN
HOW HAS IT ALL BEGAN
2007 no idea where it was
2014 discovered it in spring
2016 came back for winter

This is all about a short film i decided to make in Iceland mainly because    Sigur Rós and my upstairs neighbour ,   who offered me the (untitled) CD back in 2003. It was my favourite music for years and then came Heima, their film. i watched it in wonder over and over; i just had to go to Iceland. Landed there in 2008 and what a discovery it was, an amazing land where trees don’t go. Got back to the north in 2009 where i met a hotel owner that became my first icelandic friend.    Ásdis and a black cat   Her name is spelled “Aush-thísh” and she offered me a black cat toy on my birthday. It was no less than Grýla’s cat, the children’s nightmare troll in icelandic folklore and mother of the 13 Yule Lads, who play the role of Santa on Christmas. Meeting the boys, the curious one caught my attention; Gluggagægir, the Window Peeper, would star in my little film.    i have to see it from above!   By that time i wanted a drone and this land seemed perfect for practice; no trees and lots of super wide spaces. Launching my eyes into the sky turned out to be a new experience discovering Iceland. Meanwhile i was scratching my head looking for some kind of narrative and subject but didn’t want people or too many signs of civilization. Then i thought of     A pair of boots   playing the lead role. Of course the boots had to belong to someone who could walk, run and, of course, fly. One day i was at Skógafoss testing a camera. The popular and now crowded waterfall is no piece of cake when you get close.   Water on lenses and the unknown kid    i was completely wet and annoyed with all that water when a kid passed by, jumping. i followed him, recording. The water and wind coming from the fall were fierce but suddenly the boy approached the edge and opened his arms. In his tiny figure he embraced that giant with a sense of wonder and humility; it was a delicate and beautiful moment. Later on, imagining that scene with a little slomo to enhance its majesty, the  3 pieces came together.   The boots would belong to the boy and the curious Window Peeper would be his magical toy, on a quest for a secret. Now i have the beginning and the end. For the in between i have no idea, just a hundred of video clips puzzle that will make sense, somehow, in a near future. i’m still collecting, addicted to Iceland for life.
